West German Pottery Paintings

Our two tiny tots have grown up with West German pottery in the house, garden and garage. It is a regular occurrence to spot our eldest playing with pots, usually making imaginary cups of tea or pretending to mix cakes ingredients in then. It is therefore only natural that they decided they wanted to paint them.

Roth Vase – £2,500!

A few days ago a Roth Keramik vase sold for over £2,500 (3,190 Euros) on ebay!

Whilst it is a rare blue colour and stands an impresive 39cm tall I dont think I’ve ever seen a West German vase acheive such a high sale price. The highest on UK ebay in the last few months being a relatively paltry £350, again for a Roth Keramik vase.

ES Keramik Rock/Stone Vases

ES Keramik produced a small range of vases that mimiked rocks and stones. Whilst I’ve seen many West German vases that were perhaps inspired by nature these are the most faithful re-creations of natural forms that I’ve come across.

The range is presumably quite small, I have only ever seen these four forms. The vases all have numbers in the 670s which are often very hard to decipher. Potsandpots are currently selling these vases on eBay, click here.

They came in a variety of colours, but all very ‘earthy’, no lurid bright fat lava glazes appear to have been applied further re-enforcing their rock like appearence.

The vase below from KPM is the closest other representation of a rock that I’ve come across in mass produced German ceramics.
